Day 827 - Picky Eaters

Lisa and I try to feed Emma and Andrew healthy meals. We adhere to the five basic food groups with their daily meals: dairy, meats/eggs, fruits, vegetables, and grains. Unfortunately, I thought beer would've been fine to give them as part of their grain group since beer is made out of barley. Yet several social workers and law enforcement officers disagree with my interpretation.

Emma and Andrew have come to a point in their culinary development where it has become increasingly difficult to feed them. There are several reasons for this. One, they have acquired a taste for specific foods. Two, it is more difficult to hide the food we want them to eat because they have the motor skills to pick it out. Lastly, Lisa and I have become drunk much more often at home so there are times when we have forgotten to give them food.

For tonight's dinner, we fed the kids pasta with tomato sauce and shredded chicken, corn, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. What I found interesting was the way Emma's and Andrew's plate looked like after they finished eating. Here's a picture of Andrew's plate:

Notice he ate all of his sweet potatoes, corn, broccoli, and carrots. He hardly touched his pasta at all! And now here's Emma's plate:

Emma ate all of her pasta up, but left all of her vegetables. I wish I could tell you that she ate her sweet potatoes, but she actually handed them over to Andrew which he happily ate.

Lisa and I will have to figure out how to make Andrew eat more meat and grains, and make Emma eat more vegetables...and less pasta and bread and muffins and pancakes and rice and silos filled with grain. At least Emma graciously complied to our vegetable request and ate an entire sheet of carrot cake for dessert. That's our girl!
